Current Mood: thankfulthankful
I am thrilled beyond measure to share the news that A Curse Dark as Gold has WON the William C. Morris Award!

Many, many thanks to the committee: Bonnie Kunzel, Molly Kritchen, Jeanette Larson, Cindy Lombardo, Walter Mayes, Susan Riley, Ian Rosenoir, Gail Tobin, Diane Tuccillo, Susan Fichtelberg, and Nicole Gilbert.  I know your job was not an easy one (though I must say, judging from the noise in the background when I got The Call, it certainly sounded like a fun one!), and I am deeply honored to have been picked from among such incredible company.

My congratulations also go out to all the other American Library Association Youth Media Award winners, and also to my wonderful editor Cheryl Klein, who had TWO books honored this year!  Moriboto: Guardian of the Spirit won the Batchelder Award for a book in translation.

It was a thrill to watch the live webcast, and I can tell you, I was jotting down titles left and right!  What an incredible honor, to be part of such a wonderful celebration!  Congratulations, winners, nominees, and honorees!

I jumped up and down at work and hollered at my cubicle mate, "Elizabeth won the Morris Award!" I was following via Twitter, so that was cool.

I would imagine you're not getting very much writing done today. :p

Morris Award--WOW

I am absolutely thrilled for you. Some years ago I was appointed to the William Morris committee. We were supposed to come up with a suitable memorial to this man who was beloved by librarians all over the country. Nothing our committee suggested over several years was accepted so I thought interest had entirely died down. And, now, I see that this award survived, to honor a promising Y.A. author for a first published work. And, now I know the first recipient! Bravo! Your book is outstanding and will remain in print forever (at least a very very long time). This is huge, partly because you are the first winner, and people will say, "Ah, yes, and the first recipient was (drum roll) ..."

Many congratulations, best wishes, and with affection,
Jan Duncan-O'Neal
